Badayala is a Yolŋu Matha word from the Gupapuyngu language of northeast Arnhem Land, meaning “light.” Pronounced “budd-i-yul-ah,” the word beautifully reflects the Christian message of hope, guidance, safety and God’s presence—making it a meaningful name for this campaign.
This August and September, Bible League is partnering with radio stations across Australia to help provide 7,500 Plain English Version (PEV) Bibles to Indigenous Australians who are eager to engage with God’s Word.
More than 120 Indigenous languages are spoken across Australia, and for many people, English is a second language. Traditional English Bible translations can sometimes feel difficult to understand or distant from everyday life. The Plain English Version Bible is different. Written in clear, everyday English, it helps make the Good News of Jesus accessible, understandable and deeply personal.
Your gift will help print and place a PEV Bible into the hands of someone longing to read God’s Word. It will also support the training, distribution and implementation needed to help each Bible reach the people and communities who need it most.

About the Plain English Version (PEV)
The PEV Bible is a unique translation that uses simple grammar, direct vocabulary, and short sentences to make the meaning clear.
It avoids confusing figures of speech, explains complex ideas, and reflects the speech patterns common to Indigenous languages — all while staying faithful to God’s Word.
