Young Muslim Discovers the Truth in Jesus
Naim wanted nothing to do with Jesus, until he had an unforgettable dream.
“I was a very radical Muslim,” Naim* admits. “I held a very strong stance against Christianity. I chose to leave my family because at that point, they had converted to Christianity. It was against my religion back then to even share food and water with infidels.”
These are not the words of a bearded extremist; these are the words of a gentle and smiling 14-year-old boy who has a remarkable story to tell. Originally from Syria, Naim fled with his family at only eight years of age and lived in a refugee camp.
“Through a refugee ministry, my whole family came to Christ,” he shares. “I was the only one left out, because I didn’t want to accept Jesus. I used to think that Christians worshipped three gods and that Jesus cannot be God. I lived separately from my family. Until one night, I had a dream that Jesus was holding my hand. He told me, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I want you to attend church.’ I woke up, convinced that Jesus was God. I started asking questions about Jesus. I also stopped going to the mosque which was like a second home for me.”
Naim initially kept quiet about his new faith but it wasn’t long before his Muslim brotherhood community caught on.
“They could sense that I changed and that my thoughts were now different,” Naim says. “Three or four teens from the neighbourhood came to me and they beat me up badly. They were my friends. So, I moved to the place where I’m now. Here, I started practicing my faith a bit more freely and I now attend church regularly.”
At his church Naim was asked if he wanted to attend Project Philip training and he enthusiastically agreed. It was here that his faith in Jesus grew.
“I learned how to observe the Scripture, interpret it, and apply it to my life,” he says. “I also learned to use the Project Philip lessons for the benefit of others as well. Thank you Bible League!”
